The Flybaby, born Robert Buggs Jr., is the son of Robert Buggs and Bell Hall. A native of Springfield, Illinois, The Flybaby was born with a passion for music apparent even at an early age. When he was nine, the star known as The Flybaby was singing in a group with his cousin Phillip, Erick Reese and a friend of the family Bert McMullen. Just having a little fun at family gatherings, the four put on a fun show. The Uncle of young Buggs Leon Reese had a pre-production studio where The Flybaby began his career in the rap industry. As time progressed, metaphors, punch lines and clever wordplay began to come easier, giving the young star a more polished sound.
Recording from the age of eleven, The Flybaby began to branch out to other recording studios; Fat Ace Studios, Gary, IN, was his next stop. When The Flybaby began recording at Fat Ace, he went from having one dedicated producer, Chico, to a variety of unique and innovative sounds by adding three more Producers to his roster, R&B Singer/Songwriter Derek Bailey, Michael “Mike II” Harris and Dominique “D.Playa” Kelly. The addition of the Fat Ace team gave The Flybaby the opportunity to expand. By this time his words were being heard by the masses in the Midwest. Doing shows and opening for national artist as they came to town The Fly, as he became known, was well on his way.
At this point, The Flybaby decided to start an organization for the up and coming artist in the Midwest called P.I.C, it was comprised mainly of the artist who were recording in his Uncle’s studio. He would recruit them to perform in shows and feature on his projects. With the P.I.C. engine in place, others artists in the area could have an opportunity, if they were serious, to attain their dream.
After dedicating a significant amount of time to P.I.C, The Flybaby was ready to take on the task of releasing a Solo Project. His Best friend, Mike Smith, opened a Recording Studio, learned the equipment and began laying songs down. The Flybaby set a goal to have a project completed. In March of 2007, The Flybaby released his first mix tape. Cranking away, his goal was to release Two full length mix tape projects in not just 1 year, but 8 months thereby ending his mix tape releases forever. Now he plans to release his very first solo album.
Together with his Producer and friend Derek Bailey, The Fly sets his sights on going big time. His company Flybaby Presents, Inc. was launched in 2007, so his indelible mark will always be left on music for generations to come. As The Flybaby would tell you, “It takes more than being nice on the mic, it takes determination, hard work and a mind for doing business properly.” Such traits have been displayed by the star rapper/businessman and he is here to see it through till the end.
